The Drinking Water Research Foundation (DWRF)

...is an independent not-for-profit 501(C)3 foundation that was founded in 1984 to sponsor peer-reviewed scientific research that addresses the production of safe and affordable drinking water, including bottled water. Research verifies, identifies, and often solves current and potential problems that confront our world’s drinking water supplies. The growth and development of the drinking water industry are important and research will aid in this growth.

Bottled Water Found to be Minimal User of Groundwater in the U.S.

Dr. Keith Eshleman, University of Maryland, has completed a comprehensive, quantitative survey and analysis of bottled water production in the U.S. Relative to other uses of ground water.  Ground water withdrawals for bottled water production were found to represent only 0.022% of the total fresh ground water withdrawals in the U.S.  In comparison, agricultural use of ground water (irrigation) comprises 65% (17, 885 billion gallons) of total ground water withdrawals on a national basis.
